How to Get Started

After you’ve gotten a quote, getting started with the MissionSafe program is as easy as 1-2-3. 

  1. Sign Up – Contact your agent to enroll in the program. Then, download the MissionSafe app for Android or iPhone on your smartphone and enable the proper permissions and settings. Make sure you invite everyone on your policy to join in and share safety milestones.
  2. Drive – Your driving is automatically detected and logged, so there’s no need to open the app each time you drive. Don’t forget to check back often for your individualized score, personalized driving tips, and rewards.
  3. Save and Earn – Drivers can earn car insurance discounts and rewards just for improving and maintaining a safe driving record.

How Much Can You Save With MissionSafe?

Now that we’ve covered how our safe driving program works, you might be asking how is driving behavior evaluated with MissionSafe? The app gives you a safe driving score out of 100 based on a series of criteria. Here are some ways to keep your score in top shape. 

  • Stay off your phone – Avoid texts, calls, and other handheld phone activity while the vehicle is in motion. 
  • Limit hard braking – Decelerate gradually when traffic ahead is slowing or stopped.
  • Avoid hard accelerations – Go easy on the gas, accelerating calmly and steadily. 
  • Don’t speed – Avoid driving over a safe speed and always abide by posted speed limits. 
  • Refrain from hard cornering – Don’t swerve harshly and slow down on tight curves or turns. 

How MissionSafe Scores Your Driving

We understand that things like hard braking or acceleration are part of being a defensive driver and are unavoidable at times. That’s why the MissionSafe app calculates your score based on trips over the last two weeks, so the occasional hard brake event shouldn’t substantially impact your score. Over time, the app learns your driving behaviors and common routes, allowing it to determine whether you are the driver or a passenger. To improve app accuracy, we recommend that you review your first ten or fifteen trips and update information as needed. 

Additionally, we recommend that passengers not use the driver’s phone while in transit to ensure your score is not affected. If a passenger does use your phone, go to the trips tab and change the label to “Driver (Passenger used phone)” to remove any distraction events from the trip in question.
