Grants to Schools

Whether it’s on the athletic field or in the classroom, competition brings out the best. Schools win when their teams compete on the quiz shows we sponsor.

Top-finishing teams earn grants from Westfield. Grants are paid directly to winning schools to support academic programs and projects.

Since 2003, when we launched our first quiz show sponsorship, Westfield has awarded grants to schools totaling more than $750,000.

School Schedule

Through our support of Academic Challenge, Westfield has given $238,000 in grants to Northeast Ohio schools – that’s $34,000 every year!

Since its return to NewsChannel 5 in 2003 with the support of Westfield Insurance as title sponsor, Academic Challenge has been honored with seven regional Emmy^® Awards and nine Emmy^® nominations. For the 2007-2008 season, not only did the program celebrate its 40th year on WEWS, but Academic Challenge was honored as Best Regularly Scheduled Children/Youth Program by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – Lower Great Lakes chapter.
